VSUAA Establishes Endowed Scholarship Fund
The 126th Virginia State University Founder's Day Program was celebrated on the campus on March 6, 2008. During the celebration, Charlyne E. Jackson-Fields, National President, announced the Association's establishment of a permanent endowed scholarship fund in the memory of Ms. Helen Virginia Mosley Games, who graduated from Virginia State College in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics.
The VSUAA, Inc./Helen V. Games Endowed Scholarship Fund (Fund) was initiated with a $125,000 gift to the Virginia State University Foundation from the proceeds gifted to the Association as a bequest from Ms. Games’ estate. The Fund will be used to help attract and provide financial awards to students enrolled and matriculating at Virginia State University. The amount and number of awards will be determined from the annual income earned on the principal.
Awards from the Fund will be based on the following conditions:
1. Awards shall be made in the name of VSUAA, Inc./ Helen V. Games Endowed Scholarship Fund; 2. Recipient (s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.00 collegiate scale; 3. Recipient (s) shall demonstrate the strongest financial need, and best exemplify the qualities of leadership and community service; 4. Virginia State University's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient without regard to academic major; and the 5. Award is renewable as long as the recipient maintains at 3.0 GPA.
This marks the largest single gift ever given by the Virginia State University Alumni Association to Virginia State University.
