| Chapter Endowments |
 |
Chapter Endowments provide an effective and proven way for local chapters to provide financial support to students, within their geographic area -or special interest, who are planning to matriculate or are currently matriculating at Virginia State University. Local chapters who have successfully established endowments and awarded annual scholarships include the: Agriculture Chapter; Baltimore Metro Chapter; Chicago Chapter; Columbia, MD Chapter; Military Chapter; Greater New York Chapter; Peninsula Chapter; Greater Petersburg Chapter; Philadelphia Chapter; Northern Virginia Chapter; Richmond Chapter; Tidewater Chapter; VSU Alphas Chapter; and the Washington, DC Chapter. Several other chapters have begun the development process and hope to reach endowment status soon.
Through a chapter endowment, contributions are invested and only their interest income is used to support annual scholarships. The principal is never expended so the fund and the resulting scholarships remain in perpetuity. Annual scholarships are awarded once the fund reaches or exceeds a balance of $10,000. This can be accomplished through one Chapter contribution or many gifts over a period of time. Chapters usually announce their annual contribution amount to the University during the Alumni Reunion and Commencement Weekend held in May of each year.
The Alumni Association is proud of the permanent legacies these endowments provide to chapters and the fact that it benefits VSU students not for today but also for tomorrow. Provided below is a detailed listing of the financial committment our Chapters made to Virginia State University through their own chapter endowments.

How Can I Help? Whether a chapter is trying to get to the $10,000 starting point or raise additional funds to help grow their accounts, there are several ways that YOU can help to support the efforts of each chapters and/or the Alumni Association as a whole. Here's how you can help....
- Join a local Chapter and lend your time, talents, and expertise to help support and raise additional funds for a Chapter's endowment.
- Make a personal gift directly to a Chapter's endowment fund. Contact a Chapter President for more information. All contributions are tax-deductible, so you can take advantage of this ideal gift opportunity for tax purposes.
- Encourage other alumni and friends to make a contribution to the Chapter's endowment. There's nothing greater than the "Every Trojan, Reach a Trojan" approach.
For more direct information, contact the Alumni Association office at (804) 524-6820 or by email at info2@vsuaaonline.com or the University Development Office at (804) 524-5559 or by email at alumni@vsu.edu.
